Boosting adult learner engagement requires more than strong lesson delivery; it depends on cultivating a positive, productive classroom culture that inspires students to persist in their studies. For adult learners, especially English language learners, early classroom experiences significantly impact their long-term persistence. This session examines the critical link between learner confidence and motivation, exploring how everyday instructional decisions—such as pacing, relationship-building, and error correction—impact student retention.
By applying adult learning principles to real-world scenarios, participants will identify and address common causes of student discouragement. Our interactive discussion will highlight methods for fostering supportive learning environments and achieving small, meaningful victories. Attendees will gain practical, actionable strategies to lower emotional barriers, boost motivation, and develop celebratory, purposeful learning communities.
What you’ll learn:
Learn how confidence supports language skill‑building and keeps adult learners engaged.
Identify triggers for student discouragement and strategies to maintain momentum.
Examine the role of trust and connection in shaping confidence, participation, and belonging.
Acquire tools to help learners feel motivated, capable, and encouraged to return.
Participants who complete the full session will receive a Certificate of Attendance for one hour of Professional Development.
