Developing Perseverance
Help Students Learn Perseverance
DURATION: 1 hour
SPEAKER: Dan Griffith
Adult educators see it all too often--students start problems and immediately quit, saying, “I can’t do it!” Or they come in once and after a day of intake they disappear. Some come to our classes day in and out and never actually engage in any of the learning activities we have planned choosing not to try rather than to try and fail. What does it take to give someone the gift of perseverance? Learning to keep trying without being discouraged is one of the greatest talents a person can bring to life. Whether applied in academics, personal issues, health, relationships, or the workplace, everyone values a person that keeps going and never gives up.
In this session, you will learn:
- Why we give up on things we can accomplish
- Strategies for strengthening a student’s academic resolve
- How to integrate perseverance skill training into every lesson
- How to examine the long term effects of learners with perseverance
