The Inquisitive Classroom
Managing Curiosity and Exploration in Adult Learners
DURATION: 1 hour
SPEAKER: Dan Griffith
The traditional model of teaching is really “answer-based.” Teachers explain the “answers” to various questions to students who are expected to learn and be able to repeat the answers as needed. A “question-based” teaching format opens the doors to student engagement and learning. Teachers pose “questions” that allow learners to bring in their own experiences, emotions and interests to enhance the learning. But it can get away from you quickly if you don’t manage it properly.
In this session, we will:
- Review the key elements of “question-based” teaching
- Discuss the advantages of this format
- Develop rules for good questions
- Determine ways to implement good question-based teaching in adult education
